The Baroque period in Western music ran from roughly 1600 to 1750. Composers from this period include Monteverdi, Corelli, Scarlatti, Telemann, and Purcell amongst many, and of course the best known ones: Vivaldi, Handel and JS Bach.
The music is typically elegant and graceful, but with its own musical devices for portraying sorrow and grief as well as joy and grandeur.
