Penthos is a fabulous new musical work created by two of our members: the poet Hannah Stone and composer Matthew Oglesby.

St Peter’s Singers gave the first performance in October 2018 as part of the commemoration of the Centenary of the 1918 Armistice, for which it was written. A second performance was planned for Good Friday 2020, but had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and was eventually given at Leeds Minster on Good Friday 2023, directed by Alexander Woodrow.

“A striking quality of the auspicious premiere … was the communicative power of the Penthos Requiem to connect with the listener”

Geoffrey Mogridge on Penthos in The Wharfedale Observer

A versatile and talented chamber choir, with a reputation for enterprise and inspired music-making.

Our final concert before the summer break is here! Our final concert before the summer break is here! Join us on Saturday 20 June at St John’s Church in Baildon for an evening of great English choral music.

This will be a concert of uplifting song drawn from the great treasure trove of music that is the English Choral tradition, built up over five centuries in our Cathedrals and Parish Churches and still as vibrant and excellent as ever.

From Purcell’s awe-inspiring anthem O sing unto the Lord to Benjamin Britten’s whimsical Rejoice in the Lamb and Jonathan Dove’s modern star-gazing classic Seek him that maketh the seven stars, this concert showcases a tantalising selection of the music of worship and praise that has inspired generations of English churchgoers and music lovers.

Visit our website for more details and to book your tickets now (link in bio). Tickets are £10, or free for U18/full time students.

What a fantastic evening we had last night! We t What a fantastic evening we had last night!

We thoroughly enjoyed performing the Brahms Requiem for such an appreciative audience- thank you to all who joined us!

A huge thank you to the National Festival Orchestra who accompanied us with such beautifully rich playing. Thanks also to our soloists, soprano Helen Winter, and baritone Quentin Brown for their superb renditions of the solos in the Requiem.

This performing edition of the Brahms, created specially for this performance by John Longstaff, made use of some of the exquisite colours of the Minster’s Harrison and Harrison organ - many thanks to John for creating this wonderful arrangement, and to Shaun Turnbull for his brilliant playing.

Finally a huge thank you to our Musical Director Alexander Woodrow for his brilliant direction and dedication to bringing this moving performance together.

We do hope you all enjoyed the evening as much as we did - here is a snippet of the beautiful movement ‘Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen,’ ‘How lovely are they dwellings.’

We’d love to see you at our next concert, a relaxed and open afternoon performance in the stunning setting of Leeds’ oldest church, St John’s Briggate, at 4:30pm on Saturday 9 May. The programme is a varied and intriguing selection of choral works that showcase the development of some of Europe’s oldest music.
