Announcement – Director of Music
St Peter’s Singers are thrilled to announce that Alex Woodrow, Director of Music at Leeds Minster, is to be our new Director of Music, following Dr Simon Lindley’s retirement.
Alex is a musician of the highest quality, with strong records as both organist and choral director, as he has already amply demonstrated in the brief period before the pandemic curtailed his work with the Choir of Leeds Minster. We look forward with great anticipation to resuming our music-making and starting a new chapter with Alex at the helm.
Dr Lindley’s retirement brings to a close a remarkable era spanning some 44 years, during which he built up the choir from its foundation in 1977 to the versatile, skilled and enterprising ensemble of the present day, well-known to music lovers throughout Leeds and the West Riding. A charismatic and knowledgeable musician and speaker, Dr Lindley’s persuasive advocacy of a wide range of choral music will be greatly missed by singers and audiences alike. We send him our grateful thanks and every good wish for a long and peaceful retirement.
Looking for a choir to join in Leeds?
We’re a friendly bunch and welcome both experienced and young singers with talent and commitment to join us.
“There was a palpable momentum to Good Friday’s deeply moving performance given by the St Peter’s Singers and the National Festival Orchestra… The vocal line was impeccably counter-balanced by the rich sonorities of the instrumental ensemble.”
“As to be expected, Orchestra of Opera North and St Peter’s Singers deliver the goods with ease and are truly terrific in bringing the narrative into a new and perfect realm.”
Alex Woodrow, Organist and Director of Music at Leeds Minster since 2020, was appointed Director of Music for St Peter’s Singers in March 2021.
Alex has a distinguished track record as organist and choral director, including a spell of almost five years as the youngest cathedral organist in the country when he held the position of the Organist and Director of Music at Bradford Cathedral.
