Announcing our next concert!

Join us on Good Friday 3 April at 7pm for our performance of Brahms’ Requiem, with songs by Bruckner, Brahms and Mendelssohn.

Experience the emotional depth of Brahms’ German Requiem, along with four motets exploring themes of consolation and hope.

We’re delighted to be joined once again by National Festival Orchestra for this performance, as well as guest soprano Helen Winter.

We’ll be performing the Requiem in German with translations, and with a special arrangement of the orchestral accompaniment by the brilliant John Longstaff, specially tailored to suit the Minster’s performing space.

We’re very much looking forward to performing this beautiful music and would love to see you there!

2025 has been a busy year for St Peter’s Singers!

2025 has been a busy year for St Peter’s Singers!

Thank you to all of you who joined us for concerts throughout the year, with highlights including Good Friday’s performance of Bach’s B Minor Mass, our tour which featured an evensong service in Durham Cathedral, and our recent concert of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.

We were also very glad to be able to host a day in tribute to our former director, Dr Simon Lindley, filling Leeds Minster with singers and musicians joining together for a musical celebration in his memory.

These have been such fantastic experiences for us as singers, and we hope those of you able to join us enjoyed them as much as we did!

2026 is shaping up to be another exciting year- with the following key dates for your diaries:

Friday 3 April 7.00pm: Music for Good Friday including Brahms’ German Requiem

Saturday 9 May late afternoon in St John’s, Briggate: a Feast of 16th and 17th century choral music.

More details for these performances will be announced soon.

We’ll also be singing the morning Eucharist service this Sunday 4th January at Leeds Minster, and we’d love to see some of you there.

We had a lovely time yesterday for our Christmas concert at St Oswald’s Church in Guiseley 🎄 ✨ Enjoy our rendition here of Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of the classic Ding Dong Merrily on High- a very fun one for us to sing! 🎶

Thank you to the audience for joining us, Shaun for his fantastic organ accompaniment and to the Rector and team at the church for helping us arrange this concert!

We’re taking a break now until January when we begin rehearsing for our annual Good Friday concert- next year on 3 April we will be performing Brahms’ German Requiem, along with German romantic motets for Passiontide. Updates on how to book coming soon!

We’ve had quite a few new followers join us here on our social media channels recently- thank you for supporting us! 🤩

For those of you who’ve just recently started following us, here’s a little introduction to St Peter’s Singers of Leeds- who we are and what we do!

We’re passionate about the music we sing and want to share it with as many people as possible. We’re based in Leeds in the North of England and regularly perform across Yorkshire and other parts of the UK. We perform a range of music, from early polyphony to contemporary works, and love to bring diverse programming our concert seasons.

We have a lovely evening of festive music lined up this Saturday 6 December at St Oswald’s Church in Guiseley- ‘Sing, choir of angels,’ a joyful celebration of Christmas in carols and music. It’s pay what you can- either book ahead via our website or pay on the door. We’d love to see you there!

We’re definitely in the festive spirit now! ✨ We had a fantastic time yesterday performing Bach’s Christmas Oratorio- a big thank you to all who came along to the concert!

Thanks also to 18th Century Sinfonia for their splendid playing which added such depth and exciting energy to the performance. ✨

Here’s the opening of ‘Jauchzet frohlocket’- you can probably hear how much we all enjoyed singing this! 🎶 We were also very lucky to have nine members of the choir as soloists for the evening, some of them featuring in the rehearsal videos here, with beautiful performances all round!

We’re now straight back into rehearsing for our Christmas concert on Saturday 6 December at St Oswald’s Church in Guiseley- join us for an evening of festive music and carols for all to sing! Booking is available now via our website, or on the door- pay what you can.

What is historically-informed performance? 🎶 🎻 🎺

Historically-informed performance aims to recreate the musical sounds of different periods, using instruments dating from the time, and reviving musical techniques and styles which were left behind as musical technology progressed. This allows music fans now to hear the music as its composers may have intended or expected it to sound.

We're delighted to be joining forces with the fantastic 18th Century Sinfonia - specialists in the music of this era- for our performance of J S Bach’s Christmas Oratorio this Saturday!

Amidst all the excitement of our upcoming concerts, we’re thrilled to take a moment to sing out loud the praises of our super-talented member and composer extraordinaire, Matthew Oglesby, co-creator of that amazing Requiem Penthos!

Next week sees the opening of his latest creation, a musical comedy called Devil May Care, co-written with Sarah Case. It runs Wednesday to Saturday (12-15 November) at Yeadon Town Hall, and we just can’t wait to find out what it’s about! ‘Hell is paperwork’ apparently… so why not check it out for yourself?

While we’re preparing for the Christmas Oratorio on 22 November, we’re also getting ready for our annual concert of carols- this year we’re thrilled to be returning to St Oswald’s Church in Guiseley. 🎄🌟

Join us on Saturday 6 December at 7pm, in St Oswald's atmospheric surroundings for a cosy evening of Christmas music. The programme will include familiar carols including your favourites for all to sing, alongside the premiere of a new carol by St Peter’s Singers’ in-house creative duo Hannah Stone and Matthew Oglesby, and music by the outstanding contemporary composer, Cecilia McDowall.

Rehearsals are well underway for our upcoming concert of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio! 🎶 ✨
