This recital of music and poetry provides an opportunity for quiet reflection and remembrance for those who have died, whether as heroes on the battlefield or more peacefully much nearer to home.
Opening with music by Vaughan Williams, Ireland and Elgar, including the beautiful choral arrangement of Nimrod, we pay homage to the fallen of the two world wars. Then works by Purcell, Rutter and Harris can lead us to more personal and intimate reflection on the spiritual dimension in our lives. The recital concludes with Duruflé’s ethereal Requiem and the haunting plainchant on which it is founded, transporting us to another world.
